The Northern Audio Visual Group

Hello, I’m Allan Snape and I took over the Secretary’s role for the Northern Audio Visual (AV) Group from David Niman, our new Chairman, following the AGM on 17 October 2026.   I’m fairly new to AV, my interest in which was sparked by presentations by Howard Wilson to Stokesley Photographic Society, of which I am also Secretary.    Since then, our club has held an AV evening every season.    I joined the North East AV Group initially and then attended Northern AV meetings at Snods Edge, Riding Mill and via Zoom.

My interest in AV stems from endeavouring to tell a story using the thousands of images cluttering my many hard drives which otherwise wouldn’t see the light of day, other than in club competitions.     I trust that my early efforts, using every image I had on a particular subject and countless different transitions between images, has improved, so that the viewer can concentrate on the narrative.

I am 72 years old, married to Sue who is Chairperson of Stokesley Photographic Society.   I am originally from Wiltshire.   I met Sue in in 1974 while at Leeds University studying Civil Engineering, while she was studying English.   After two years working on construction sites around the country for an Engineering Consultancy, I moved to the north-east in 1979 to work for Northumbrian Water.    After 41 years with the company in various roles, I retired in September 2019.    We have two children, a son who lives in Glossop with his wife and a daughter and son-in-law who live in Stokesley.   My daughter has three grandchildren, who are both a delight and exhausting!

I have spent the last couple of weeks in the new role importing contacts provided by David and updating the Club secretaries’ contact details from the latest Northern Counties Photographic Federation and North Yorkshire and South Durham Photographic Association lists.    Hopefully, through them, I will be able to reach everyone in our area with an interest in audio-visual.    If you are not a member of a club, but wish to receive news of NAVG events please contact me at: allansnape707@gmail.com
